It has been announced today that Ballina electorate will receive several million dollars to enhance road safety for key projects in the area.
The electorate has been allocated $3,125,572 in new funding through the Australian and New South Wales governments’ joint Road Safety Program investment.
Roads will benefit from the funding with the installation of a raised pedestrian wombat crossing on Bryon Street at Bangalow; safety improvements including installation of bus bay, footpath and signage on Goonengerry Road at Goonengerry; and intersection safety improvements including new traffic signals at intersection of Broken Head Road and Clifford Street at Suffolk Park.
The Australian and NSW governments are contributing a combined total of $518.3 million over 2023-24 to 2025-26 for road safety treatments across the NSW road network.
The NSW Minister for Roads, John Graham MLC, said the rising number of fatalities on roads across Australia is extremely concerning. ‘These latest major projects for NSW under the Road Safety Program will see some of our key roads and highways get the improvements they urgently need to make them safer for years to come.’
NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Jenny Aitchison MP, said reducing road trauma on country roads is a top priority. ‘The investment in regional NSW infrastructure will help improve road safety, reduce road trauma, and make journeys safer for all who live in and travel through regional NSW.
‘Our goal is simple: everyone on our roads should return home safely to their loved ones. This investment is a crucial step toward making that a reality.’
