Northern Rivers Animal Services is kick-starting its monthly adoption days for 2025 this Saturday, 1 February, from 10am–1pm at 61 Piper Drive, Ballina.

Volunteers say there’s been a cuteness ‘explosion’ at the NRAS Rescue Shelter with so many beautiful dogs, puppies, cats and kittens available for adoption.

To view the profiles of the animals available for adoption, go to the website at nras.org.au and if interested, download and complete an Adoption Questionnaire.

All prospective adopters must provide proof of home ownership or landlord approval as part of the adoption process.

All animals adopted through NRAS are vet checked, flea & worm treated, microchipped, vaccinated and desexed.

Interview with Genevieve Clay-Smith, director of Boss Cat showing at the Byron Bay Film Festival

When Sonja (Olivia Hargroder) loses her mother without warning, the only steady presence left in her life is her grandmother, Doris. But Doris’s idea of stability means dismantling everything Sonja has built. For Sonja, who lives with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and has spent her life fighting to be underestimated by no one, Doris’ plan feels less like protection and more like erasure. Directed by Genevieve Clay-Smith, Boss Cat is a vibrant, big-hearted Australian dramedy about independence, family and self-determination, anchored by a fearless lead performance.
