Though the sun rose beyond clouds, over 1,000 people from the community got up early to greet the dawn at Brunswick Heads today, to comemorate the 109th anniversary of the landing of the ANAZACs at Gallipoli.

From the early hours of this morning people gathered to acknowledge the sacrifice of lives, families and communities have made in the name of war and keeping peace. Across the Northern Rivers events will continue today as we acknowledge the cost of war.

The City of Lismore RSL sub-Branch ANZAC Day 2023 Commemoration began before 5am today with around 100 marchers gathering to file down Molesworth Street to the Lismore Memorial Baths where over 1,000 people stood in absolute silence waiting for the dawn service to begin.

Hundreds lined the streets for the ANZAC Day march in Lismore yesterday, before a moving ceremony at the cenotaph outside the Memorial Baths.

Ellen Riordan, known as ‘Nell’, was awarded seven medals for her service in the ANZAC Nursing Corps in both World Wars. Southern Cross University will now honour the local nurse’s legacy.
