Northern Rivers Peace group, Remembering and Healing is inviting all community members to a peace gathering on the eve of ANZAC Day.
Remembering and Healing (RaH) meet annually at this time to remember the suffering war brings on all sides, and to make a strong commitment to peace and non-violence, both locally and globally.
It starts with bread
A new initiative this year will see RaH invite people from all nations, cultures and faiths to bring bread or something you serve with bread from your culture to share together in the traditional sign of hospitality, cooperation and connection.
RaH has partnered with local Sandra Handley who will be launching Peace in our Lifetime, a global peace campaign that aims to use the collective power of imagery and its ability to unite people and cultures by blanketing the world with peace signs.
With music by local, Mish Songsmith, a poem by Vincent Stead, peace speakers, lighting candles for peace and sharing food and conversations, attendees will have the opportunity to decorate peace signs that will be placed publicly around Lismore.
Peace can spread
RaH’s Patron and MC for the evening, Jenny Dowell, says world peace seems impossible but if we start in our own hearts, homes and communities. ’It can spread. We must give peace a chance and when we stop and really listen to each other across cultures, religions, generations or whatever divide that we might imagine, peace can grow.’
This event will be held on April 24 from 5.30pm at the Red Dove Centre, 80 Keen Street, Lismore (accessible venue).
RaH can be contacted on [email protected] or just come along – you are welcome.
