Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Oh yeah. Well said Sarah Jane Potts, what a fabulous community day incorporating whats really important in our community , not only on a small Mullumbimby scale, but world wide. A highly successful day I think, in uniting our wide community, spreading environmental message and creating an open gate to the Mullumbimby Community Gardens.

The Living Earth Festival, a prime example of what makes Mullum such a great community to in.
An outstanding job in preparing, organising and running this event which I’m sure nobody predicted would attract the numbers it did and be so hugely successful. So congratulations Janette, Sara-Jane, Jonno and all the vollunteers and members of the gardens, THANKS.

  7. Sarah-jane Potts here, Living Earth Festival Director – thank-you for coming on Sunday and the making the day together a joyful affirmation for a bright future, and a dazzling example of a loving, engaged community in action!

BTW afterwards there was almost zero rubbish …and after over 6,000 people had been through the entire 5 acres of gardens the only casualty was one squashed strawberry!
    We love our community!

Thank-you to the large FESTIVAL TEAM of visionary and committed people – volunteers – who worked together with so much passion and skill to create this Gathering Of the Tribes in honour of this Living Earth!

Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
