Since its inception back in 2008, Mullum Music Festival has been introducing music lovers to some of the best singer/songwriters on the planet.

Both Pieta Brown from the US and Australia’s Lucie Thorne have been recognised and lauded for their distinctive vocals and poetic sensibilities, and both have appeared as solo artists at past festivals.

This year Mullum Music Festival is excited to introduce one of its favourite new collaborations, Love over Gold, featuring both Brown and Thorne in a performance that casts no shadows.

Love-Over-Gold-promo3_SMThe pair met during Pieta’s first tour of Australia in 2010 and they became fast friends and fans of each other’s work. Now as Love over Gold they present their debut album Fall To Rise, released recently through Vitamin Records.

Recorded in Pieta’s home town in Iowa, Fall to Rise traverses the open expanses of both continents to a place where voices, guitars and poetry meet.

Bringing to mind the ethereal sounds of Iron & Wine and Bon Iver, while subtly evoking the feel of Americana greats Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch, Love over Gold feels both brand new and inexplicably familiar.

The duo feature in capital cities around the country, ending their first tour de force as Love over Gold at their favourite little music festival, Mullum Music Festival, November 21–24.

The girls are ready to loosen their guitar straps, let their hair down, and break a few hearts along the way.

Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
