To those citizens who have concerns about water fluoridation, it will be interesting to see whether the Byron Bay public meeting last Wednesday was a genuine consultation.
That is, are the authorities going to give respect to the wishes of the community, the people who would have to consume fluoride?
The Victorian health department swept around the state between 2002 and 2010 forcibly fluoridating most towns against the wishes of communities.
They ran community consultation meetings that were a sham.
In most town meetings an overwhelming majority expressed opposition to fluoridation, particularly after hearing the poor quality spin of the fluoride promoters.
Yet the government simply waited a month or two, then announced that consultation was complete and fluoridation was going ahead.
People’s wishes were utterly ignored.
What will happen in Byron Shire? Will freedom of choice and fairness win the day?
At present Byron is a shining beacon of light for the whole country on this bizarre, so-called public health practice.
