Please note: the event previously publicised for Byron Main Beach will now take place at the Youth Activities Centre, see below.

The heat is on. We need climate action now! That’s the slogan of climate-change activists who will be gathering in Byron Bay and other north coast locations at the weekend.

‘According to GetUp! the last month was the hottest on record in the country. The last 12 months were the hottest on record. The last summer was the hottest on record,’ Harsha told Echonetdaily.

‘Yet Australian government policy does not acknowledge the seriousness of the situation, instead slashing departments, jobs and cutting funding on renewable energy,’ he added.

‘Please add your voice to the growing national and international demand for real action to address, arrest and reverse climate change before it’s too late.’

Interested people around Byron Bay are asked to meet at the Byron Youth Activities Centre, 1 Gilmore Crescent, Byron Bay, on Sunday (November 17) from 4pm., and to wear red and orange ‘to show we are turning up the heat for action on climate change’. Bring banners, drums and be heard.

The afternoon will flow into evening with live music from Ryan Dingle, Juzzie Smith and A Little Province as well as a silent disco and presentations by the Earth Guardians.

An official photo will be taken at 6pm.

Other similar gatherings organised by GetUp! will be held at Brunswick Heads, Lismore and Murwillumbah  (see https://www.getup.org.au/get_togethers/climate-catchup?t=dXNlcmlkPTM0NzE2OCxlbWFpbGlkPTMwNDc=).
