Tweed Heads locals George Jefferies and Teri Jorgensen have scored themselves finalist places in the 2016 Golden Chef’s Hat awards.

The promising pair – 24-year-old Mr Jefferies from Twin Towns Services Club and 23-year-old Ms Jorgensen from Tweed Heads Bowls Club – have out-cooked some of the region’s best young chefs, cementing their place in the culinary competition, held at TAFE Queensland Brisbane on Saturday and Sunday.

Although no strangers to the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award, having competed before, the duo said they were a bit nervous at first ‘but once we got into the kitchen we relaxed and went into auto pilot, all of our practice kicked-in.

Their next big test will be the national final.’

Australian Culinary Federation competition director, Deb Foreman said the standard was high, ‘but George and Teri ultimately delivered the best dishes on the day.’

‘We applaud all the young chefs that competed. Putting yourself up to be judged on your culinary talent amongst your peers is tough and we know that they will all take a lot from the experience of competing, in honing their skills and gaining more knowledge.’

The talented duo have secured themselves a trip to Melbourne in September where they will represent Queensland South in the national final of the award, cooking-off live in front of show attendees in purpose built kitchens at Fine Food Australia.
