What a disgraceful affront to the residents and visitors of our beautiful Tweed Valley is the new Caltex Roadhouse and the sad concession the developers have made for landscaping.
We have all watched for what seems an eternity for these works to be completed with an expectation that the entry to the Tweed Valley Way become something remarkable, reflecting the magnificent back drop of Wollumbin, the distant rainforest, mountains and the beautiful gardens of Melaleuca Station.
Instead, we the community and the Tweed Shire Council have approved this concrete monstrosity in an age of preparing for the end of burning dangerous fossil fuels.
$25 million worth of heat reflecting concrete, more underground storage of lethal fuels and an excuse for landscaping which is an insult to all who love nature.
The massive roundabout entry resembles a quarry with yet more palm trees stuck between piles of rocks.
A Caltex mini supermarket with, can you believe it more obesity promoting outlets like KFC and the ubiquitous MacDonalds.
We do acknowledge the introduction of an organic food outlet as well…Good luck to Olivers.
We demand that the Tweed Shire Council contact the developers of this atrocity, remedy the landscaping on the roundabout and all areas of the complex to assure endemic species only are planted in mass proportions in an attempt to somehow make some good of this environmental crime scene.
