A man who died while swimming at Belongil Beach in Byron Bay last week has been identified as a Kyogle man.
The body was discovered by another man swimming at the beach between 3.45pm and 4.15pm on Wednesday, 28 December.
The man and another swimmer pulled the body from the water but he could not be identified.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.
The identity of the man was not known and police commenced an appeal to help identify him.
Following inquiries, the man has been confirmed as a 64-year-old Kyogle man.
Police thaned the public and media for their assistance.
