A 34-year-old Barkers Vale man without a licence who was driving a car in Goonellabah without a number plate will appear in the Lismore Local Court next month after trying to escape from police.
Police allege that the man was seen about 1am this morning driving off in an erratic manner.
When he was signaled to stop, the driver refused to do so and instead drove towards the roundabout on Rous Road where he lost control and mounted the traffic island.
He reversed off and drove for another 500-metres before stopping.
Police attempted to breath-test the man but he refused.
The 34-year-old was arrested and taken to the police station where he produced a high range reading.
Checks on his licence revealed it had expired three years ago.
He was charged with Refuse to Submit to a Breath Test, High Range PCA, Not Obey Direction of Police and Drive Whilst Licence Expired.
Police said the traffic offences would be dealt with by infringement notices. He will appear in Lismore Local Court in April.
