So the coalition are wanting to privatise our beloved ABC. Having raped and pillaged it for years – now want to hand it over to private enterprise. What is their reason?
There is absolutely no economic reason. The vast majority of citizens were happy to have their eight cents a day go towards keeping a truly independent news outlet via radio and TV. Since the coalition came to power that has dwindled to four cents per person.
So what is the coalition afraid of? Is it the media barons who support them via agreeable propaganda for their policies? And when asked to they happily crucify the opposition? (Think the treatment of Julia Gillard.)
Are they afraid of losing the huge donations from media, mining and big companies? Are they afraid of losing the support of so-called independent parliamentarians who might get their tax cuts through? Or are they afraid of their actions and issues being investigated by journalists who, up until now, have had no ‘master’ to dictate to them?
A governing party of a democracy is in power to look after the interests of all citizens, not just the few. The very fact that the coalition are considering privatising a brilliant public broadcaster,, can only be described as treason.
They are traitors to the Australian way of life. This from a party that refers constantly to Australian values. Such hypocrisy. It seems this is a party without any moral values whatsoever.
People: let your voices be heard, now and at the next election. Save our ABC from desecration.

For four decades The Echo has printed the stories some people loved, some people hated, and some pretended not to read. If you want us to keep telling the truth, the real truth, not the sugar-coated version. We’ll need your support to keep the presses rolling.
