With still so much work to be done for flood recovery in the town, Resilient Lismore is putting out a call to the Northern Rivers and to our neighbouring regions to keep coming to help.

Resilient Lismore coordinator Elly Bird says they need more volunteers as there is a lot that they need help with. ‘We really need people who can come for day visits to keep coming over the weekend, and into next week.’

Cr Bird says the community is getting tired, and there is still so much to do. There are jobs ranging from helping to wash things, washing walls and inside houses, cleaning up yards, helping in community kitchens and food distribution centres, and of course we are very keen to see handy people who can help make houses secure and safe for people who have returned to them.”

‘Our system currently has spots for more than 1200 volunteers in it. We can’t do this on our own we need our neighbouring communities to keep coming to help us. We are so incredibly grateful for all the support we have received and can’t thank everyone enough for everything they have done so far.’

‘The system is easy to use, you can log in and find your way to jobs we have listed, and we have quite a few tradies using it now to map out their day and be as efficient as possible. We are also keen to hear from large organised groups from outside of our city and we will work with you to find things for you to do.’

‘If you are in Lismore we would love to see you – drop in to our Volunteer Hub at 117 Magellan St, opposite the library to say hi.’

Register to volunteer at www.floodhelpnr.com.au and join the Resilient Lismore (Lismore Helping Hands) – Community Resilience & Recovery Facebook group to find ways to keep helping our amazing community.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
