The bird box was hand-painted by Scotty Sentence.

It has taken two years for the beautifully decorated bird box, that was hand-painted by Scotty Sentence on behalf of the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce (MCC), to find its forever home.

Last week the bird box was placed in Heritage Park by Landcare in a tree that has numerous owl nests and will hopefully be well used by many little critters.

‘We are so happy to finally have the installation of the bird box in Heritage Park just down from the Riverside Tennis courts,’ said MCC member Jenelle Stanford.

‘This was a combined effort from Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon , the Chamber of Commerce and Landare. It has taken a while to find a perfect location as we originally wanted it to go on the roundabout as you entered Mullumbimby. However, Landcare checked the site out and was too busy so we looked for an alternative location and this one seems perfect.’

Landcare will be able to monitor the bird box and establish what creatures use it throughout the years.

‘They install little cameras in the boxes to monitor what is going on and we are all pretty excited about what will happen next,’ said Jenelle.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
