Science in the Pub, Lismore, 16 July

An engaging and informative Science in the Pub event is planned on Thursday, 16 July, from 5pm at Two Mates Brewing, South Lismore.

Tomorrow night will see one lane closed on Tamarind Drive in Ballina while  Lennox Head will see the beginning of roundabout construction at Ballina Street and Allens Parade, Lennox Head start on Monday, May 13.

One lane of Tamarind Drive (across Canal Bridge) will be temporarily closed overnight on Friday 10 May and Saturday, 11 May.

‘This closure is part of Council’s ongoing project to duplicate Canal Bridge on Tamarind Drive and will allow Council’s contractor to complete geotechnical investigations to inform the bridge design,’ said a Ballina Council spokesperson.

‘These essential works are scheduled overnight to reduce traffic disruptions. Work will commence at 6pm each night and continue through to 5am the following morning. The works will include two drilling rigs operating in the roadway.’

Traffic will be contra flowed in both directions with the use of temporary traffic lights. Access to Ballina CBD and the M1 will be maintained, but please anticipate delays.

To reduce noise impacts on nearby properties, works closest to residents will commence early in the evening.

If further investigation works are required a third night of works will be completed on Saturday 18 May.

Traffic control and signage will be in place to notify motorists of traffic changes. Council thanks residents for their patience and understanding during these works.

Lennox roundabout

‘The current temporary roundabout at the intersection of Ballina Street and Allens Parade was installed in 2021 as part of a suite of measures to reduce traffic speed and improve safety. Due to the success of the temporary roundabout the new permanent structure was funded through Council’s Capital Works Program,’ said the Council spokesperson.

What to expect

  • The northbound lane of Ballina Street, between The Coast Road and Allens Parade, will be closed until the end of May 2024.
  • Motorists entering the town centre will need to detour via The Coast Road and Byron Street to access the town centre. See the closure map below for details.
  • Residents of Allens Parade, Dress Circle Drive, and Pinnacle Row will also need to detour via The Coast Road and Byron Street when travelling northbound.
  • The southbound lane (exiting the town centre) will remain open during the project.
  • The northbound bus stop (located on the corner of Ballina St and Park Lane) will be temporarily relocated to the corner of Byron Street and Ballina Street (directly outside The Lennox Hotel).

Construction of the new roundabout is expected to be completed by the end of May 2024.
