In an effort to breathe life back into unused instruments while helping to harness the musical talent of young student musicians, Mount St Patrick Primary School is holding an instrument drive this weekend.
The school says that music is something that brings joy and adds to almost every facet of our lives.
Primary music department head and teacher, Anna-Mieke Mulholland, says that from an educational perspective the ability to read and play music has long been known to improve academic performance. At Mount St Patrick Primary School we want to remove some of the financial hurdles that prevent our students from developing this valuable skill.
‘To do so we need help.’
Instruments to be played and loved again
Ms Mulholland says that donating to the instrument drive will give instruments that chance to be played and loved again as part of the school instrument library.
‘This term (until Tuesday, December 17), we are collecting donated instruments that can be used again in art if no longer playable or to make music in the hands of young musicians. Especially needed are lower brass and woodwind instruments suited for primary school aged musicians.’
Instrument collection boxes can be found at the Mt St Patrick Primary School front office; the Fairy floss booth at the mt St Patrick PS Tableau; the Murwillumbah IGA; BP Gourmet Garage; and the Murwillumbah Music Store.
Anonymous donations accepted gratefully or please attach your contact details to your gifted instrument if you wish to know how the music plays on.
