The Northern Rivers Community Foundation (NRCF) has launched the Northern Rivers Rapid Relief Fund to help support on the ground, grass roots organisations following Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
‘When disaster strikes, it’s our local community groups that step up first. Thanks to the resilience built over the past three years, many grassroots organisations in our region acted swiftly in response to last week’s cyclone. Their sense of agency and preparedness made a significant difference – but their resources are now stretched thin,’ said Sam Henderson, CEO of NRCF.
‘We’ve been reaching out to organisations across the Northern Rivers and while we may have “dodged a bullet” in terms of widespread damage, many local charities are telling us that they have depleted their reserves. Smaller, under-resourced groups urgently need support to replenish essential supplies like:
- Emergency food bank stocks
- Personal protective gear
- Community defibrillator pads
- Other critical disaster-response resources
‘That’s why we’re launching The Rapid Relief Fund—a targeted, streamlined initiative to get funds into the hands of trusted local groups quickly. Unlike larger national appeals, this fund directly supports grassroots organisations.’
