Richmond Riverkeeper says it welcomes the data behind CSIRO's new model for the Richmond River catchment, accepting that even the most ambitious set of measures modelled would not stop towns in the catchment from flooding, while warning that the health of the river itself is still missing from the conversation.

Today is World Wetland Day and the work needed to restore, repair and protect one of the most significant wetlands in the Northern Rivers following the Black Summer fires is underway.

Four farmers on the north coast have put life back into drained swamps on their properties by participating in a program funded by the Environmental Trust that allows them to regulate the amount of water that enters wetland areas.

Back in 1841, Clement Hodgkinson described the coast of the northern rivers as ‘extensive swamps of many thousand acres in extent, whose verdant sea, of high waving reeds and sedge, stretches away to the base of the distant forest ranges.
