Richard Everist, a Lonely Planet author and formerly Lonely Planet’s publisher, and his partner, Lucrezia Migliore, have founded Around The Sun to organise ‘comfortable adventures’ – for real travellers.

‘A holiday should first and foremost be fun. And it has to be comfortable. But we know that it can also be a whole lot more. It can be an amazing adventure. It can introduce you to fascinating cultures that change the way you see the world. It can introduce you to amazing people who enrich your life,’ Richard says.

‘When I worked for Lonely Planet it was clear that most people on the backpacker trail just wanted to party, get a suntan – and get laid! Many backpackers have now graduated to cruises. They get on a boat, party, get a suntan – and eat as much food as they can! Not much has changed,’ he says.

‘Our job at Around The Sun is to design the world’s best holidays – for real travellers. We take the stress out of travel – but our travellers also get off the beaten track, meet local people and have amazing experiences they’ll never forget.’

According to Richard, because ‘Comfortable Adventures’ is Around The Sun’s motto, ‘it’s natural we should partner with Patagonia. Patagonia designs the world’s best – and most comfortable – adventure gear.’

Around The Sun and Patagonia are holding a free Travel Info Night at the Byron Community Centre at 6pm on 3 August. Richard Everist will present a slideshow about walking in the world’s most beautiful places – and advise how, with the help of Patagonia, you can have a comfortable adventure. There’ll be prizes and great-value Patagonia gear. Don’t miss out!

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
