Fast Buck$, Coorabell
A passing ‘sort of’ apology to Bob Hawke over something he said during his time that I only just became aware of: ‘enough is enough’.
He was talking about the ongoing plunder of Earth’s resources in the context of Tasmania’s obsession with dams at that time.
Obviously you can’t on the one hand embrace market capitalism (as his government did) and expect any slowing down of pace – but no-one ever accused Bob of being a philosopher.
And so it is that Australia continues to pander to China’s growth with manic resources extraction combined with an equally manic internal obsession with infrastructure – almost a mantra. On and on it rolls.
Which brings us to the local Byron bypass and our witless next-generation Greens. If the Greens are willing to sacrifice wetlands for the temporary benefits of a bypass then really there is no hope left for the planet is there. What say you, Oliver Dunn?
