Five water mains have broken in Tweed Heads leaving 250 home without water for most of today.
Tweed Shire Council are currently working to repair the five water main breaks.
‘All the mains are small but it is inevitable that we will lose some water today despite the current Level 2 water restrictions,’ manager water and wastewater Anthony Burnham said.
The areas affected include Ducat Street and Compass Way; The Mainbrace; Angela and Thomson streets; Pontresina Avenue; and, The Quarterdeck, between Norman Street and Leeward Terrace.
All the small mains are the older cement type but it is not known what has caused the spike in breakages.
Tweed Council are looking to have repairs completed by 4pm.
