Low-lying areas of Ballina went under water on the weekend as king tides reached 1.93 metres on Saturday night, 1.92 metres on Friday, and 1.9 metres on Sunday.
Affected areas included the bus interchange on Tamar Street in central Ballina; Riverside Drive, River Street and Burns Point Ferry Road in West Ballina, and North Creek Road and Southern Cross Drive in North Ballina.
Council reminded motorists to avoid driving through salt water as it damages bodywork and affects vehicle maintenance.
While king tides are nothing new for Ballina, it is a reminder that the island town will be especially vulnerable to even higher water in the future as the climate emergency worsens.
