Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Couching an Opinion

The Bruce Lehrmann and Brittany Higgins case was never about establishing whether or not Lehrmann raped Higgins. It was about Brittany. She was established as not ‘the perfect victim’ so we overlooked the blazingly obvious fact that Bruce Lehrmann was ‘the perfect perpetrator’. An entitled, compulsive wrecking ball of cocaine, $400 steaks, free rent and very very expensive massages.

Hip Hop artist Gurridyula Gaba Wunggu will highlight the issues around gas mining in the Pilliga.

The Gomeroi people of the Pilliga today will welcome hip hop artist Gurridyula Gaba Wunggu for a ‘global broadcast – a lyrical ballistic missile’ aimed to rally up support for the inland wars on sacred grounds that have never ended.

A spokesperson for the event said that the central Queensland, Wangan and Jagalingou tribes have reoccupied the lands at the operations of the Adani Carmichael mine, by winning one successful court case after another. ‘The ever growing “Standing our Ground” – SOG mob of indigenous and non-indigenous allies are a well-oiled team of law combatants, taking on this giant corporation.’

Gee’d up is a a song that Gurridyula has dedicated to Gomeroi fighting Santos in the Pilliga.’

Decimating the heart of Australia’s ground water

The spokesperson said that Santos approved to further decimate the heart of Australia’s ground water source as part of the Narrabri Gas Project in the Pilliga Scrub.

‘We are invited to sit on country in the Pilliga Scrub, absorb the powerful knowledge in one of the most sacred locations on this ancient landmass and learn through citizen science and gas field tours why the Pilliga is so sacred.

‘As an eco-hydro-geological miracle, the Scrub is also the largest remnant in NSW, sprouting out of a pure aquifer, floating like an island within The Great Artesian Basin (GAB) – our central water source taking up just over a quarter of the land mass above, with the world’s rarest species.’

Things are exciting in the watery underbelly

The watery underbelly of the GAB is where things get really exciting. Under the red Jurassic sands with classic semiarid biome there are fish swimming beneath your feet. Collectively known as Stygofauna, they are a n aquatic subspecies made up of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and invertebrates. Their job make the water famously pristine, as the healing mineral rich Pilliga water.

Already underway, the sprawling unconventional gas mine in the Pilliga Scrub, with a proposed 850 wells along with its extensive network of infrastructure, is drilling straight through the GAB recharge zone into the Gunnadah Basin, perforating and pumping under pressure toxic chemicals.

Gurridyula in the Pilliga

To highlight the importance of the Pilliga Scrub and the GAD, Gurridyula will be in the Pilliga today and tomorrow, Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 April.
