Three people have been involved in a horrifying crash today, leaving two dead and one in critical condition, police said.

Police on Wednesday said a car crashed into a tree and caught fire along the Pacific Highway in Bonville, 25 km south of Coffs Harbour, around 12:40 am.

The driver, a woman police believed to be aged 20, and a 21-year-old male passenger, were reportedly unable to escape the burning car and died before paramedics could reach them.
