Byron Shire Council says Mullumbimby Road will be closed to outbound traffic for three days, except for buses and emergency vehicles, for three days from 16 to 18 November.
The road will remain open to inbound traffic although there will be delays of up to 15 to 20 minutes at times.
The reason for the changes is so Council can do a final seal of the road. Nightworks are not recommended for spray seal due to the lower air and road temperatures. Road temperatures must be above 24 degrees.
Drivers will have to use alternative routes to leave Mullumbimby such as Myocum Road and Coolamon Scenic Drive. Heavy vehicles should use Myocum Road.
The road closure and changed traffic conditions will be in place from 7am to 6pm. It will be open to two-way traffic at night.
Buses and emergency vehicles will continue to have inbound and outbound access to Mullumbimby Road under staff supervision.
Line marking will be done over two nights in late November and another two nights in early December. The road will remain open during this work.
Last major impact, staff promise
‘There is no doubt there will be inconvenience for drivers while we do the final seal of the road, and I can promise people that staff will be working as hard and fast as they can to minimise disruption,’ Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.
‘The seal will only take three days and that will mark the last major impact on traffic in what has been an incredibly challenging project for Council,’ Mr Holloway said.
Once the line marking is finished in early December the upgrade of Mullumbimby Road will be completed.
Electronic signage will be in place prior to the start of the seal work to advise drivers of the change in road conditions.
