In medieval times, for a fee, indulgences were granted by the church to rich men to expiate their sins. Since the link between carbon dioxide emissions and global warming has been understood, there’s been a similar vibe around many carbon capture and storage projects, with the existence of this technology providing an excuse for very large companies to continue polluting our atmosphere, rather than transitioning to renewables.

When we row together, the Northern Rivers moves forward. An image comes to mind: rowers in a skiff, gliding across glass-still water. Oars dip in unison, lift, and drive again, the skiff moving forward with quiet, coordinated efficiency.

Local councils are on the front line of managing resources and the environment and are in a position to implement practical on-the-ground changes to protect the environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and plan for the impacts of the changing climate.
