A 28-year-old Ballina man has died after a single-vehicle accident in a suburban street yesterday.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident, which is believed to have happened at around 4am on Monday.
They are investigating whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash, in which the man was ejected head-first from the vehicle on impact. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
A police spokesperson said it appeared the driver had lost control while cornering and struggled to retain control of the car for several hundred metres before it hit a tree. It did not appear the brakes had been applied, he said.
Anyone with any information on the crash should call Ballina police on 6681 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
