Stephanie Deane, Secretary, Save Jack Evans Boat Harbour Committee
Paul Murray from Sky News interviewed National Party Matthew Fraser at a live meet the candidates session at TTSC on Thursday 23rd June. Paul asked Matthew what he would like to see happen in the Tweed.
Matthew talked about this and that and then went to say, ‘the Gold Coast is 50m north that way with its Dreamworld, SeaWorld and Movieworld, we don’t want that here, we want the ‘real world’ here’. This bought applause from the audience.
On the very same day, in a free local paper, Rory Curtis, Committee Member of the Tweed Chamber of Commerce and National Party member, stated, ‘The Chamber is pleased to see that businesses are interested in investing in activities in and around Jack Evans Boat Harbour as its an amazing blank canvas with lots of opportunity’.
He then went with an intended reference to the call for tenders by TSC for aquatic facilities on the harbour stating, ‘The Tweed Heads Chamber of Commerce supports any applications and wishes them all the success in their ventures’.
Of interest Matthew Fraser is our National Party candidate and the President of the Tweed Chamber of Commerce. Warren Polglase is a National Party member and Vice President of The Tweed Chamber of Commerce as well as one of the politically aligned TS Councillors pushing for the commercialisation of the JEBH with no public consultation.
I wonder why Matthew Fraser didn’t tell the truth at the Sky News event and say that the Tweed National Party are actively promoting the commercialisation of the JEBH with Gold Coast styled themed fun parks.
Perhaps he knew the audience didn’t want to hear that!
