A long-awaited development application for land on the North Lismore Plateau will be on display for public comment next week.
The DA – lodged on behalf of the Winten Property Group – proposes the subdivision of a section of land that would result in 433 residential allotments.
Lismore City Council’s Development and Compliance manager Peter Jeuken said the lodgement of the DA followed an extensive period of consultation with various stakeholders ‘to ensure the development has addressed man of the concerns that were raised through the rezoning process’.
‘The development application process now gives the broader community an opportunity to make submissions,’ Mr Jeuken said.
‘Details of the proposal will be available once the public submission period begins on 13 September, 2017.’
Already opponents of development on the plateau have indicated they will be closely scrutinising the development application.
Led by Bundjalung Elder Michael Ryan, opponents have vowed to oppose development as they say the area is extremely significant to Aboriginal people.
They have raised concerns that rock walls on the plateau, identified by independent archeologists as pre-Colonial, have not been properly investigated.
Also, two bodies discovered using ground penetrating radar at a site on the Winten Property Group land, have also been the subject of a police investigation.
