The friendly giant of the Australian festival scene is stirring…
After two years of COVID-induced slumber the Woodford Folk Festival is stepping back into the light, reviving the largest gathering of artists and musicians in the country.
Thousands of musicians, street performers, thoughts leaders and facilitators from across the globe have already begun to descend on Woodfordia, the famous festival site north-west of Brisbane.
‘We’re not going back to what our festival looked like in 2019, we are looking into the future and crafting a festival that will accompany us there,’ the Festival’s General Manager, Amanda Jacks said.
This year organisers made the tough decision to not commission the 20,000 capacity amphitheatre venue for evening concerts.
Instead, the Grande venue will be much expanded to accommodate the amphitheatre evening acts along with a full programme of concerts.
But the program is as abundant as ever with over 2,000 artists and presenters across 20 venues.
This year’s event will also see the full unveiling of Lake Gkula, a conservation and recreation water body that is chemical free and uses all-natural wetland filtration systems that deliver a safe habitat for wildlife and people alike.
The lake is abundant with fish and plant life with more than 16 species of native fish and crustaceans and over 8,000 plants, including native water lilies.
The up-flow wetland filtration system creates habitat for beneficial bacteria and microorganisms, which create healthy stable conditions and keep pathogens at bay.
‘We imagine our beautiful site at Woodfordia as a parkland dedicated to the arts, humanities and folk lore underpinned by a powerful sense of environmental responsibility and innovations.’ festival founder and director Bill Hauritz said.
‘We see ourselves as an institution that can support artists, thinkers, innovators and businesspeople in their quest to make the world a better place.’
‘While Woodfordia is a small boat, it has a large wake. While we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.’
A small number of tickets for the festival remain available.
