Totally agree with Annie Radermacher (Echo Nov.1).Council needs to put their resources into fixing the current infrastructure problems before contemplating adding thousands more homes to this area – fixing them, not patching them. This includes communicating and negotiating with relevant agencies to clear Brunswick River and Saltwater Creek to ensure the future safety of Mullumbimby residents and businesses.
Mullumbimby Residents Association asked why Coolamon Scenic Drive is included in the Residential Strategy when a DA was refused in 2018 – flood area and impact on existing residences was not assessed.
Impact on existing residences and businesses should be the top priority in any and all planning. These people have spent their lives paying rates and taxes to achieve a safe secure home.
They expect the council they elected to do their job and protect them.
The current emphasis on new housing has ignored consideration of the impact on existing residences.
Mad, irresponsible, reckless decisions to provide housing for one group while simultaneously making existing groups potentially homeless should be strongly rejected by all ratepayers/taxpayers in large, loud numbers.
Surely it’s now clearly evident that government’s disaster relief is mostly political grandstanding, empty rhetoric. So prevention is better than hoping for help.

Don’t rely on your incompetent council to fix these issues , they are clueless and have no idea what to do,
add more homes to flood prone land , and not fix infrustructure ? a recipe for a disaster.
Our road in Sunrise has been needing proper repairing for 4 years , north end of sunrise blvd , they re-did the southern end 2 years ago , but we will wait and see??
We pay some of the highest council rates in AUS , We deserve so much better , we need to start a tax for all the van’s that want to stay in the area , they need to contribute to the area if they are staying more than a few days.
We were told a few years back that some of the money council got from paid parking would contribute to fixing of local roads , but again we hold our breath.
another typical NIMBY boomer, not here to provide solutions for housing and only aim is to protect their vanity and land value.
