Well Mungo, I am staggered (your column re Rudd for UN).
Why on earth would you want to inflict Kevin Rudd on the rest of the world, isn’t the globe in enough strife now?
Malcolm Turnbull will be cheered for eternity for this very correct decision not to nominate Mr Rudd for that post. Ever since that fateful weekend in 2007, Kevin 07 has shown that he has promoted himself way above his ability and has displayed the ‘Errol Flynn’ touch to everything that he has undertaken.
And it is not only the nomination that should send fear through the community, as he would be expecting that the Australian taxpayer should also bankroll his bid. He has form in this arena, we all remember, his last bid for some global recognition with the 2010 chase for the 2022 Soccer World Cup. Over $45 million was trousered by parties unknown in his futile effort which resulted in a single vote to Australia.
Past ALP colleagues, including your ‘love child’, the former Minister for the Continuation of Japanese Whaling in the Southern Pacific, Peter Garrett, describes Rudd as a megalomaniac, whilst former NSW Premier, Kristina Keanelley calls him a psychopathic narcissist and claims that she could name 12 more worthy Australian bidders for the UN position, with one of them being her pet Labrador.
Perhaps Mungo, you could assemble the left wing intelligentsia to the front bar of the Billinudgel Hotel (confession, I am currently reading your tome Poll Dancing) and have a debate between Kevin and the Labrador. The worm would be busy and the sports betting agencies would probably have the Labrador at very short odds.
Its a peculiar trait of the Left that not only do they promote self serving utter incompetence such as displayed by Rudd but they then rewrite history to try and make a martyr of the clown. Just like Isis, Nazi,s,Whitlam, Obama,Merkel . Oh hell, the list just goes on and on. I wouldn,t worry about Mungo,s comments. Apart from a newspaper column in tiny corner of NSW he has no significance whatsoever.
Kevin Rudd has surely shown the ability to bring out the nastiness in the establishment. It cannot be hidden behind vague classical references. Rudeness and nastiness will always cast their gloom through whatever veil is placed before them, the soul of the writer is always on display.
Vince Rudd does not inspire nastiness anymore – just ridicule. Our souls are on display – and they are not casting gloom, just mirth. Sadly for our former Prime Minister – who did do a few things – he continues to invite ridicule by his actions and now his reaction to Turnbull’s decision. It is that lack of grace in th e current situation that confirms his unsuitability for such a prominent world-wide office. At least only Australians – and perhaps Kiwis – are laughing – and not the rest of the world.
