Ben Reeve and Oliver Gall were presented with the Grey Wolf Award – the highest award that can be achieved by a Cub Scout.

Scouts Group Leader, Melissa Bautista, said the award requires the candidates to work through a large variety of tasks in-order to achieve the badge.

‘The Grey Wolf award is 12 months of work which culminated in the boys mapping and leading a hike for six cubs somewhere in the region,’ Ms Bautista said.

‘Ben and Oliver both worked diligently to achieve this award and join an impressive list of Byron Bay Cubs who have achieved the award in the past.’

1st Byron Bay Scout group is one of the oldest community-based organisations in the region.

The group was initially set up in 1910, just two years after the movement was launched internationally.

The current hall in Tennyson St was constructed with a budget of 250 pounds in 1938.

The group caters to boys and girls aged 8 – 18 years and currently has 70 members.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
