The Association had its final meeting of its 90th year recently. Guest speakers were Lynne Weir, Director Clinical Operations for the Northern NSW Local Health District and Adam Reid, (Acting) GM of both the Tweed and new Tweed Valley Hospitals.
The purpose of the discussion was to provide an update on the progress of the hospital, with the intention of fostering an ongoing, neighbourly relationship with the Kingscliff community, and also to consider and respond to issues regarding traffic and other related impacts on locals.
Members provided direct and insightful commentary and questions on the key issues surrounding the operation of the hospital and its impacts, with both guests engaging genuinely and positively.
KRPA representatives said the discussion was a positive first step in engaging with the new neighbours in mitigating the local impact of this major, regional facility sited between a small rural village and coastal town. They said they look forward to further dialogue as the Tweed Valley Hospital progresses towards opening and beyond.
Ninety years
For 90 years, Kingscliff Ratepayers & Progress Association has been the key community voice for residents and ratepayers of the area. The KRPA was instrumental in the early years working to establish facilities, infrastructure and services throughout the area.
More recently, the Association has strongly advocating for balanced, sustainable development and growth, while at the same time protecting the fabric, amenity and liveability of this special part of the Tweed.
They say threats still remain from inappropriate development on flood prone land, legacy and zombie developments, inappropriate ‘mega’ developments and saving the remaining State Significant Farmland from land banking developers seeking to replace this drought proof, climate resilient protected food bowl with concrete.
The KRPA says it’s committed to meeting these challenges head on, and continuing to serve its wonderful community, just as it has for the last 90 years.
